Westwood, Mass. (April 9) -- MIT senior Garrett Greenwood (Edmond, Okla.) has been named as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week after his performance in a 4-0 week for the team.
In a NEWMAC start vs. Emerson on Saturday at home, Greenwood threw a gem as he went seven innings and gave up just one hit with 11 strikeouts in the home victory. In game two of that doubleheader, Greenwood became the all-time career hits leader at MIT as his single up the middle gave him 197 hits for his career. After the three-game sweep of the Lions over the weekend, Greenwood sits just one hit shy of becoming the first 200-hit performer in program history.
For the season, Greenwood is 2-0 as a starter as he has a 1.44 ERA over 25 innings pitched and leads the team with 27 strikeouts. Offensively, he is hitting .333 with a team-high 24 hits and 16 stolen bases, which ranks second in the NEWMAC.
The Engineers are back in action on Tuesday, April 10th as the team travels to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy for a 3:30 p.m. start in New London, Conn.
