Cambridge, Mass. (May 10) -- MIT baseball sophomore Matt Johnston (Portola Valley, Calif.) has been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team, presented by CoSIDA. This was voted on by the region's athletic communications directors.
The program honors the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Johnston is now eligible for selection to the Academic All-America team, which will be announced on June 5th.
A physics major with a perfect 5.0 GPA (on MIT's 5.0 scale), Johnston appeared in 23 games for the Engineers with a team-high seven home runs that included a pair of two-homer contests. For the season, he batted .250 with 16 runs scored, four doubles, 19 RBI, a .522 slugging percentage and seven multi-hit games.
As a freshman in 2017, Johnston was the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, a NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference performer and an All-Region selection.
