Johnston, Callahan Earns ABCA and NEIBA All-Region Accolades

Greensboro, N.C. (May 28) -- MIT baseball junior Matt Johnston (Portola Valley, Calif.) and senior Patrick Callahan (Vicksburg, Mich.) have been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Region Teams. Johnston was named to the First Team, while Callahan is a Second Team All-New England performer.

Johnston, who was named to the All-Region Second Team, was a NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference honoree who led the Engineers in every offensive category. Leading the conference in hits (71), runs batted in (57) and total bases (119), he was second in runs (46) while posting a team-best .380 batting average. Tied for the team lead in home runs with 11, Johnston had 23 extra-base hits and reached base safely in 39 of 43 games on the season.

Callahan, who was a NEWMAC Second Team selection for the second time in his career, was named the NEWMAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player after throwing a pair of complete games to lead MIT to the league title. Posting a 6-1 record in a league-leading 13 starts, Callahan ranks fourth in the NEWMAC in innings pitched (73.2) and earned run average (2.20) with 65 strikeouts, two complete games and one shutout. In his final two games of the NEWMAC Tournament, Callahan was 2-0 with two runs allowed over 18 innings with 15 strikeouts and zero walks.
