CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Post season honors continued for seniors Mitchell Kates (Colts Neck, N.J.) and Will Tashman (Atherton, Calif.) of the MIT men's basketball team as both were selected All-Northeast region honors by D3hoops.com. Tashman was a first team selection while Kates was named a member of the second team. It is the second time for both in their careers that they have been recognized on the All-Northeast team, with Kates named to the third team a year ago and Tashman a fourth team pick in 2010-11.

Tashman, who was the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Athlete of the Year and a first team all-conference selection, averaged a double-double this season with his 16.3 ppg and 10.8 rpg averages. A three-time NEMWAC Player of the Week, Tashman led the conference in rebounding while leading the Engineers in both scoring and rebounding. The MIT career leader in rebounds, Tashman became the first MIT player to reach 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career this season. He finished among the top-10 all-time at MIT in points (1,414), rebounds (1,023), field goal percentage (.541), free throw percentage (.740), assists (270) and blocks (82).

Kates was also a first team All-NEWMAC selection this year and finished second to Tashman in scoring for the Engineers with his 14.8 ppg average. He led MIT and the NEWMAC in steals and recorded eight 20+-point games. The MIT career record holder in assists and steals, he is the first MIT men's basketball player to be named All-NEWMAC in each of his four seasons. He closed his career in MIT's top-10 in scoring (1,625 points), free throw percentage (.753), assists (550) and steals (254).

The duo helped lead MIT to a 20-6 final record, its fifth straight 20-win season, and a berth in the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament.
