• MIT Crew Competes at Eastern Sprints

    WORCESTER, Mass. – MIT’s heavy and lightweight crew teams both had multiple entries at the 2012 Eastern Sprints Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester. Boding well for the future of both programs, the Engineer freshman teams had the best finishes at the regatta, with the freshman lightweight team taking second in the petite final of its division.

    BARABOO, Wis. – It was a light weekend of racing for the MIT heavyweight crew team. The squad fielded just a freshman eight boat against crews from Dartmouth College and host University of Wisconsin in a race that was moved to Devils Lake State Park in Baraboo, Wisconsin due to weather.

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT’s heavyweight crew team took on a pair of nationally ranked teams on the Charles River on Saturday, rowing against second-ranked Harvard University and fourth-ranked Princeton University in a battle for the Compton Cup. The Harvard crew came out on top in the Varsity 8 race, with Princeton second and MIT third.

    BRONX, N.Y. – MIT and No. 13 Columbia squared off with their heavyweight rowing teams for the rights to the Alumni Cup in the first outing of the spring for the Engineers. On a cold and blustery day it was Columbia that came out on top to win the cup in a race that also had crews from No. 17 Dartmouth and Holy Cross on the 2,000-meter course.

  • MIT Crew Completes Florida Training Trip

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - On Wednesday, January 11, MIT Crew departed Cocoa Beach, Fla. after an intensive, ten-day training trip. All four MIT Crew squads: open and lightweight women and heavyweight and lightweight men, met in Florida just after the New Year to row on the Banana River and Sykes Creek, gaining considerable improvements in technique and fitness. Practicing twice daily on the water, all four MIT Crew squads logged valuable miles with an eye on successful spring racing.

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – This coming weekend the MIT varsity crews will kick off the fall portion of their season with one of the biggest competitions of the year, the historic Head of the Charles regatta. With more than 8,000 athletes from around the world competing in 55 different events, the Head of the Charles is the world’s largest, two-day rowing event. It attracts up to 300,000 spectators to Boston and Cambridge.
