Engineers Perform Well in Donahue Cup

WORCESTER, Mass. - Racing on Lake Quinsigamond for the first time this season, the MIT heavyweight crew team faced Williams College, WPI and Franklin & Marshall College in the Donahue Cup on a warm spring Saturday morning. Tech entered two Varsity 8 boats and a Varsity 4 in the event, and all three crews finished second in their respective races.

MIT's Varsity 8 completed the 2,000m course with a time of 5:54.82, finishing just a few seconds behind Williams who won with a 5:50.60. WPI finished almost 10 seconds behind the Engineers in third in 6:03.44.

In the second Varsity 8 race, Williams, once again, took first, clocking a time of 6:03.60. MIT followed soon after with a time of 6:11.55 and WPI was third in 6:13.72. In the final event for the Cardinal and Gray, the Varsity 4, Tech finished in 7:03.90. The Williams Ephs came in first place with a time of 6:59.70 and Connecticut College, in its only event of the day, was third in 7:08.33.

Next Saturday, April 19, the Engineers will host the Compton Cup, welcoming Harvard University and Princeton University to campus for an 8:24 a.m. race.
