Men's Lightweight Crew Competes at Head of the Charles

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - On a beautiful, clear-skied Saturday in Cambridge, the MIT men's lightweight crew team opened the season at the 49th annual Head of the Charles Regatta. Tech entered two boats in the Lightweight Eights race that was the second to last heat to race on the final day of competition. The A boat had an impressive fourth place finish, while the B boat came in 15th.

The A boat clocked a 3:36 as its first split at Riverside, placing it seconds behind Princeton, Harvard and Yale. It reached Cambridge 2:29, recording a split four seconds faster than that of Harvard, who was just slightly ahead of the Engineers. Tech ended up finishing in fourth with a time of 15:26.510, behind Harvard in third with its time of 15:22.141. The Cardinal and Gray were just 23 seconds out of first-place finishing Princeton.

The Engineers' B boat reached Riverside in 3:47, which moved them up in the rankings slightly when they reached the checkpoint before Georgetown University's boat. Tech reached Weld in a time of 9:06 following a 5:18 split. MIT completed the course in 15th place in the 17 boat field with a time of 16:19.818.

MIT will return to the water on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Dartmouth Green Monster Invitational and will compete in just one more regatta before taking a five month break in anticipation of the spring season, which will commence in April.
