Men’s Fencing Picks Up Two Wins at Brandeis InvitationalDecember 02, 2018For the second year in a row, the MIT men’s fencing team generated a 2-3 record at the Brandeis University Invitational held on Sunday. The Engineers defeated the University of Incarnate Word (17-10) and Cornell University (23-4), but fell to St. John’s University (16-11), University of North Carolina (17-10), and Yale University (20-7). Sophomore Nyle Sykes (Greenwood Village, Colo.) led the epee squad with a 10-3 mark while first-year Christopher Kiel (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) paced the foil unit with a 10-5 ledger. First-year Aaron Lu (Belmont, Calif.) turned in the best performance for the sabre contingent as he went 8-7.
Men’s Fencing Posts 4-1 Mark at NFC CompetitionNovember 17, 2018For the second year in a row, the MIT men’s fencing team opened up Northeast Fencing Conference action with a 4-1 performance on Saturday. The Engineers defeated UMass (17-10), University of New Hampshire (27-0), Boston University (14-13), and Sacred Heart University (14-13), but fell to Brandeis University (14-13). Freshman Robert Law (Los Altos, Calif.) won seven of his eight foil bouts while classmate Aaron Lu (Belmont, Calif.) led the sabre squad with a 10-3 ledger. Sophomore Nyle Sykes (Greenwood Village, Colo.) powered the epee unit with an 11-4 record.
Men's Fencing Earns Four Top-Five Finishes at The Big One InvitationalOctober 28, 2018The MIT men’s fencing team opened up the 2018-19 season by generating four top-10 finishes at The Big One Invitational hosted by Smith College on Sunday. Junior Sheel Patel (El Paso, Texas) tied for fifth place in epee for a career-best performance while freshman Aaron Lu (Belmont, Calif.) tied for third place in the sabre standings. Freshmen Christopher Kiel (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) and Robert Law (Los Altos, Calif.) both tied for third place in the foil competition for the Engineers.
