  • Men’s Fencing Battles at the Beanpot

    The MIT men’s fencing team wrapped up the regular season by competing at the Beanpot on Wednesday night. The Engineers fell to Boston College (19-8), host Brandeis University (18-9), and Harvard University (22-5). Sophomore Nyle Sykes (Greenwood Village, Colo.) led the way for the epee unit with a 6-3 ledger while first-year Robert Law (Los Altos, Calif.) paced the foil team with a 3-4 mark. Sophomore Aidan Simpson (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) had the best showing for the sabre squad as he went 3-6 on the day.
  • Men’s Fencing Foil Squad Shines at Sollee Invitational

    The foil contingent of the MIT men’s fencing team generated a 39-15 record as the Engineers went 3-3 at the Eric Sollee Invitational on Sunday. The Cardinal and Gray defeated Hunter College (22-5), Yeshiva University (24-3), and Haverford College (17-10) but fell to NYU (22-5), New Jersey Institute of Technology (15-12), and Stevens Institute of Technology (15-12). First-year Christopher Kiel (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) posted a 13-3 mark for the foil squad while classmate Aaron Lu (Belmont, Calif.) led the sabre team with a 13-5 total. Junior Sheel Patel (El Paso, Texas) powered the epee unit with a tally of 11-4.
  • Men’s Fencing Goes 5-1 at NFC #2

    In its return to action, the MIT men’s fencing team compiled a 5-1 record at Saturday’s Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) competition at Brown University. The Engineers defeated Vassar College (18-9), Brown (19-8), Tufts University (20-7), Dartmouth College (17-10), and non-conference opponent University of Rhode Island (23-4), but fell to Boston College (16-11). First-year Aaron Lu (Belmont, Calif.) won 17 of his 18 sabre bouts while junior Avi Zeff (Philadelphia, Pa.) won 11 of his 12 foil bouts. Junior Yixuan Pei (Baltimore, Md.) powered the epee squad with a 10-3 record.
  • Men’s Fencing Picks Up Two Wins at Brandeis Invitational

    For the second year in a row, the MIT men’s fencing team generated a 2-3 record at the Brandeis University Invitational held on Sunday. The Engineers defeated the University of Incarnate Word (17-10) and Cornell University (23-4), but fell to St. John’s University (16-11), University of North Carolina (17-10), and Yale University (20-7). Sophomore Nyle Sykes (Greenwood Village, Colo.) led the epee squad with a 10-3 mark while first-year Christopher Kiel (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) paced the foil unit with a 10-5 ledger. First-year Aaron Lu (Belmont, Calif.) turned in the best performance for the sabre contingent as he went 8-7.
  • Men’s Fencing Posts 4-1 Mark at NFC Competition

    For the second year in a row, the MIT men’s fencing team opened up Northeast Fencing Conference action with a 4-1 performance on Saturday. The Engineers defeated UMass (17-10), University of New Hampshire (27-0), Boston University (14-13), and Sacred Heart University (14-13), but fell to Brandeis University (14-13). Freshman Robert Law (Los Altos, Calif.) won seven of his eight foil bouts while classmate Aaron Lu (Belmont, Calif.) led the sabre squad with a 10-3 ledger. Sophomore Nyle Sykes (Greenwood Village, Colo.) powered the epee unit with an 11-4 record.
  • Men's Fencing Earns Four Top-Five Finishes at The Big One Invitational

    The MIT men’s fencing team opened up the 2018-19 season by generating four top-10 finishes at The Big One Invitational hosted by Smith College on Sunday. Junior Sheel Patel (El Paso, Texas) tied for fifth place in epee for a career-best performance while freshman Aaron Lu (Belmont, Calif.) tied for third place in the sabre standings. Freshmen Christopher Kiel (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) and Robert Law (Los Altos, Calif.) both tied for third place in the foil competition for the Engineers.
