Westwood, Mass. (October 2) -- MIT football junior quarterback Udgam Goyal (Frisco, Texas) and senior linebacker Matt Nicolai (Northport, N.Y.) have both been honored with New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week honors for their play in a win over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Goyal was named as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Nicolai earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Goyal earned his third straight victory on Saturday as he completed 20-of-30 passes for 217 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. His scoring passes came from four, six and 60 yards out as he now has eight touchdowns on the season.
Nicolai led the MIT defense with a 10-tackle effort that included seven solo tackles and a pass breakup. He posted two interceptions in the game, both of which immediately led to touchdowns. As a team, Nicolai and the defense posted a single-game school-record five interceptions.
MIT returns home on Saturday, October 7th as the Engineers host Maine Maritime Academy for a Noon start at Steinbrenner Stadium.
