Bennington Named to the New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England Team

Cambridge, Mass. (November 21) -- MIT football junior defensive lineman Ben Bennington (Harrisonburg, Va.) has been named to the 2018 New England Football Writers College Division II/III All-New England Team.

A New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) First Team honoree, Bennington started 10 games and finished with 42 tackles that included 19 assisted stops. He also had 3.5 sacks, seven tackles for a loss of 35 yards and a pair of fumble recoveries that included one for a touchdown.

Bennington posted four games with at least five tackles, including a season-high nine tackles that featured three tackles for a loss of 14 yards in a home win over Catholic University in late September.

As a team, the Engineers captured the 2018 NEWMAC Championship, were ranked No. 1 in the Grinold Chapter New England Coaches Poll for seven weeks and advanced to the 2018 NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Division II Northeast-10 Conference and in Division III the Massachusetts State College Athletics Conference led the way with six selections each. The Commonwealth Coast Conference, the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference and the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference each had five picks. The New England Small College Athletic Conference finished with four honorees.

The team will be honored at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 6, at Rosaria Restaurant and Function Facility in Saugus, Mass.
