Babson Rallies Past Men’s Lacrosse, 10-9

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT entered the fourth quarter with an 8-7 edge, but Babson College generated a 3-1 spurt during the last nine minutes of regulation to come away with a 10-9 victory in a Pilgrim Lacrosse League game on Saturday night. Morgan Krey posted a game-high five points on four goals and an assist for the Engineers (4-5, 2-1 Pilgrim) while Cam Caruso led the Beavers (6-6, 2-1 Pilgrim) with three goals and an assist.

Caruso opened the scoring 2:22 into the contest, but Dan Piemont buried a man-up goal for the equalizer just over a minute later. Babson responded with five unanswered goals which spanned the first and second quarters.

Piemont ended MIT's scoring drought by connecting on a feed from John Kucharczyk at the 9:49 mark of the second frame, but Babson's Tom Mallon increased his squad's margin to 7-2. Krey closed the first-half scoring by redirecting a pass from Nick Sisler with 1:15 remaining.

The Engineers carried the momentum into the third quarter by registering five straight goals which resulted in an 8-7 advantage. Kucharczyk scored after 30 seconds expired before Krey became a factor in the next four markers. He earned the assist on Piemont's tally and then scored the next three with Sisler picking up two assists and Kucharczyk providing the helper on the go-ahead goal.

At the nine-minute mark of the fourth quarter, Andrew Packer registered a man-up goal for the Beavers, which was matched by Kucharczyk's man-down tally a minute later. Packer then posted the equalizer with 5:44 on the clock and earned the assist on Jamie Schmidt's extra-man game-winner with 2:55 left in regulation. MIT had a pair of chances to force overtime during the final minute, but Piemont's shot was stopped by goalie James Whalen and Kucharczyk's blast sailed wide.

Sisler finished the night with four assists as Kucharczyk totaled two goals and two assists. Piemont posted a hat trick and two caused turnovers while Justin Myers recorded seven groundballs. Timothy Wilczynski notched five groundballs as Christopher Rullan compiled 13 saves and three groundballs.

Alex Patinkin tallied two goals and two assists while Packer registered two goals and an assist. Mallon, Ryan Kucinski, and Schmidt each scored once as Mallon added three groundballs. Ryan Dawidjan paced the Beavers with five groundballs as Caruso contributed four groundballs. Mike Griffin won six of his nine faceoffs while Whalen collected seven saves.
