  • Men’s Lacrosse Collects Program Record and League-High 18 NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Accolades

    The MIT men’s lacrosse team saw a program-record and conference-high 18 student-athletes earn NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honors as announced by the league today. The list is comprised of 45 student-athletes who earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or 4.35 on a 5.0 scale after the 2018 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at his institution, and been a member of the team for the entire season.
  • Men's Lacrosse Falls to Springfield in Overtime, 14-13, in NEWMAC Semifinals

    The MIT men's lacrosse team saw its 2019 season come to a close tonight as the third-seeded Engineers fell to the second-seeded Springfield College Pride, 14-13, in overtime in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Semifinals on Stagg Field. 
  • Engineers Defeat Clark, 13-10; Capture No. 3 Seed for NEWMAC Tournament

    A strong first half during which MIT outscored Clark University, 8-3, helped propel it to a 13-10 victory in NEWMAC men’s lacrosse action on Saturday night. Sophomore Gavin Vandenberg (Elmhurst, Ill.) racked up three goals, two assists, and four groundballs for the Engineers.
  • MIT Rallies to Defeat Babson, 13-12, in Men’s Lacrosse

    MIT put together a 7-1 run during the final 15:24 of regulation to capture a 13-12 come-from-behind victory over Babson College in NEWMAC men’s lacrosse action on Wednesday night. Sophomore Luke Gianni (Henderson, Nev.) buried the game-winning goal with 5:52 left to play while winning 23 of his 26 faceoff attempts and collecting a program-record 21 groundballs. Ethan Carpenter led the way for the Beavers with two goals and three assists.

  • Men's Lacrosse Falls to Springfield, 16-15, in Senior Day Overtime Thriller

    Lucas Habich scored with 15 seconds remaining in regulation and then set up Cole Pecora for the overtime game-winner, giving Springfield College a 16-15 victory over MIT in NEWMAC men’s lacrosse action on Saturday. First-year James Santoro (Tewksbury, N.J.) amassed nine points on two goals and seven assists for the Engineers, tying the program record for assists in a game while also breaking the Institute record for assists in a season. Habich led the way for the Pride with two goals and four assists.
  • Men's Lacrosse Tops Emerson, 7-4

    MIT built a 5-0 lead early in the third quarter before going on to defeat Emerson College, 7-4, in a NEWMAC men’s lacrosse game on Wednesday night. First-year James Santoro (Tewksbury, N.J.) powered the Engineers with three goals, one assist, and three groundballs while Malcolm McGrath amassed a career-high 22 saves for the Lions.
  • MIT Falls to Coast Guard, 17-10, in Men’s Lacrosse

    In a battle of undefeated NEWMAC men’s lacrosse teams, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy topped MIT, 17-10, on Saturday afternoon. Junior Aidan Westley (Palos Verdes, Calif.) and first-year James Santoro (Tewksbury, N.J.) both produced five points for the Engineers, Westley with three goals and two assists while Santoro had one goal and four assists.
  • Fast Start Helps Men's Lacrosse Defeat Massachusetts Maritime, 15-7

    MIT raced out to an 8-0 lead before going on to defeat Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 15-7, in a NEWMAC men’s lacrosse game on Saturday night. Junior Aidan Westley (Palos Verdes, Calif.) amassed six goals to go along with two caused turnovers for the Engineers.

    In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, the MIT men’s lacrosse team pulled away for a 12-5 win over Johnson & Wales in non-conference play at Steinbrenner Stadium.

    In the NEWMAC men’s lacrosse opener for both teams, MIT defeated Wheaton College, 17-12, on Saturday afternoon. First-year James Santoro (Tewksbury, N.J.) powered the Engineers with one goal and five assists while Pete Chisholm led the way for the Lyons with four goals and two assists.

    Nationally-ranked No. 14 Williams College generated six unanswered goals in the third quarter, helping it pull away for a 16-9 victory over MIT in a non-conference men’s lacrosse game at Colorado College on Wednesday. First-year James Santoro (Tewksbury, N.J.) powered the Engineers with four goals and one assist.
  • Colorado College Defeats MIT Men’s Lacrosse, 12-8

    Colorado College outscored the MIT men’s lacrosse team, 10-3, in the second half, helping it come from behind to defeat the Engineers, 12-8, on Monday night. Sophomore Mark Heatzig (Boca Raton, Fla.) powered MIT with six goals.

    MIT opened the game with seven unanswered goals and held off a late rally by UMass Dartmouth, defeating the Corsairs, 12-10, in non-conference men’s lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon. First-year James Santoro (Tewksbury, N.J.), sophomore Nicolas Gianni (Henderson, Nev.), and junior Aidan Westley (Palos Verdes, Calif.) each produced four points for the Engineers.

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy rattled off seven unanswered goals during the first seven minutes of the third quarter en route to a 16-13 victory over the MIT men’s lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon. First-year James Santoro (Tewksbury, N.J.) tallied three goals, three assists, and six groundballs for the Engineers.

    MIT generated three goals during the last seven minutes of regulation to secure a 10-7 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in a non-conference men’s lacrosse game on Wednesday night. Sophomore Mark Heatzig (Boca Raton, Fla.) generated a career-high five points on two goals and three assists for the Engineers. Ben Coakley, meanwhile, paced the Leopards with one goal and two assists.

    Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute rattled off six unanswered goals in the second quarter, helping it create enough of a cushion as it went on to defeat the MIT men’s lacrosse team, 16-6, on Saturday afternoon. First-year Liam Miller (Pasadena, Calif.) paced MIT with two goals.

    In the 2019 season opener, Lasell College scored five goals in the fourth quarter to overcome an 8-7 deficit as the MIT men’s lacrosse team dropped a 12-10 final to the Lasers on Wednesday afternoon.

  • Walter Alessi Selected for IMCLA Lifetime Service Award

    The Intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) named former MIT head coach Walter Alessi as the recipient of the 2018 Lifetime Service Award. The award will be presented at the annual IMLCA coaches convention on Friday, December 7 in Baltimore, Md.
