Men's Lacrosse Opens 2006 Campaign with a Win

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Dylan Roden had an impressive outing in his collegiate debut as he tallied three goals and an assist in MIT's 7-3 victory over UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday. Jonathan Stolmeier, Brennan Sherry, Tyler Sorba, Stefano Young, and Ryan Ballentine also contributed to the Engineers' (1-0) attack.

Tech opened the scoring 3:31 into the contest when Roden connected on a feed from Young. Almost a minute later, Stolmeier set up Sherry for the first goal of his collegiate career. Stolmeier notched an extra-man goal with 11 seconds remaining in the quarter. He then recorded his third consecutive point by converting a pass by Ballentine at the 6:24 mark of the second stanza. MIT entered the intermission with a 4-0 advantage.

The Corsairs cut their deficit in half with goals by Mark Lapointe and Mike Duffey at 12:10 and 7:14 of the third period. The Engineers answered when Roden found Sorba for the goal 30 seconds later. Roden recorded the final tally of the frame with seven seconds on the clock. He continued to attack in the fourth quarter and found success with an unassisted goal after 20 seconds had expired. UMass-Dartmouth ended the game on a goal by Lapoine with 39 seconds left to play.

In net, Zach Brewer collected 10 saves for MIT while Craig Britton made eight stops for the Corsairs.
