CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - With a 9-4 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology on Tuesday, the MIT men's lacrosse team opened its season with back-to-back wins for the first time since 1999. Tyler Sorba totaled three goals and an assist while Brennan Sherry notched a hat-trick for the Engineers (2-0).

Patrick Shannon opened the scoring four minutes into the contest by connecting on a pass from Dylan Roden. Tech extended its lead 1:30 later when Sorba found Scott Purchase. Sherry tallied the next two goals, including an extra-man score, with Jonathan Stolmeier earning the assists.

The Leopards (0-1) ended the shutout with 6:41 left in the second stanza. Sorba answered with what proved to be the game-winning goal two minutes later and gave MIT a 5-1 advantage at halftime.

Wentworth cut its deficit in half with two unanswered goals early in the third quarter. Sorba ended the scoring spree with his second unassisted tally at 10:52. The Leopards narrowed the margin to two (6-4) for the second time with 7:30 remaining in the period.

Like the first quarter, MIT dominated the offensive end in the final frame. Unassisted goals by Sherry, Sorba, and Stolmeier helped secure the win as Wentworth was held scoreless.

Goalie Zach Brewer collected 15 saves while Purchase picked up a team-high six groundballs and won four faceoffs.
