CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT fell to regionally-ranked No. 9 Babson College, 2-1, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers' record dropped to 5-5 overall and 0-3 in the NEWMAC while the Beavers improve to 8-2-3 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.
Babson grabbed a 1-0 lead late in the first half as Ted Gott scored on a mishandled cross at 40:44. The game would remain a scoreless affair until the Beavers' Mark Dayvie headed a cross from Sam Ensslin across the box to Tim Winn, who one-timed the pass into the net in the 84th minute.
MIT cut its deficit in half just 97 seconds later as Walter Song converted a feed form Ryan Sheffler with 5:03 remaining in regulation. However, that would be the final goal allowed by Babson netminder Chris Necklas, who finished with four saves. Thomas Caldwell went the distance for the Engineers as he collected two saves.
