No. 5 MIT Men’s Swimming and Diving Sends Colby Packing

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The No. 5 MIT men's swimming and diving team met non-conference opponent Colby College in a regular-season dual meet Saturday afternoon in the Zesiger Center Pool. The Engineers led from start to finish as they dismissed the Mules, 189-79.

Colby senior Kevin Smith picked up the Mules' only individual event, the 1000 Free. After losing to MIT swimmers earlier this season in the 1650 and 500 Free events, Smith found success in the middle, swimming an impressive 10:07.24 to take the win.

In the 500 Free, MIT freshman Max Pruner touched the wall first (4:47.99) and bettered his time from last week's meet against Wheaton by nearly 10 seconds. Sophomore Matt Chapa finished second (4:54.51), sealing the 1-2 finish for the Engineers.

On the diving boards, sophomore Chao He picked up his first wins of the season with his scores in both the 1-meter (178.79) and 3-meter (188.62) events.

MIT (4-0) looks forward to Sunday, January 17, when the Engineers face-off against fellow NEWMAC frontrunners Coast Guard and host Springfield College. Colby (2-3) has the rest of the weekend off and next travel to Lewiston, Mass. to swim against Bates College on January 23.
