Men's Swimming & Diving Defeats Williams, 162-126

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Not having raced for over a month since the Winter Invitational, the MIT men's swimming and diving team defeated Williams College,162-126, on Friday afternoon, winning nine of the 14 events. Senior Wyatt Ubellacker (Georgetown, Ky.) won all three of his individual events and freshman Bo Mattix (La Canada, Calif.) won two of his.

In the 400 yard medley relay, the opening event of the meet, the A relay touched first in 3:23.04 and the B relay came second with a time of 3:28.04. Freshmen Thomas Norris (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Michael Lu (Scarsdale, N.Y.) competed strongly in the 1650 yard freestyle. Norris finished in second place with a time of 16:14.51 and Lu touched third in 16:31.76.

Ubellacker had his first win in the 200 yard freestyle when he went 1:39.47, out touching the Williams swimmer who finished next by over four seconds. Ubellacker went on to win the 100 yard freestyle in 44.74 and the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 49.87.

 In the 100 yard backstroke, MIT freshmen dominated the field, taking first through third. Mattix finished first in 51.36, followed by Bradford Jokubaitis (Newtown, Pa.) in 52.43 and Sean Corcoran (Huntersville, N.C.) with a time of 53.03. The results were very similar in the 200 yard backstroke, with Mattix maintaining first with a time of 1:52.67 and Jokubaitis in third with a 1:55.11. Senior Brendan Liu (Lake Oswego, Ore.) finished fourth place in 1:56.04, Corcoran came fifth with a 1:56.86 and senior Ron Rosenberg (Newton, Mass.) was sixth with a time of 1:58.15.

Junior Michael Liao (Newport Beach, Calif.) finished first in the 100 yard breaststroke in 58.02, sophomore Brendon Chiu (Monterey Park, Calif.) was third in 58.81 and freshman Dion Low (Valparaiso, Ind.) came fourth with a 58.94. Liao finished second in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:05.94 and Low was third in 2:08.41. MIT finished the night with another win in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:24.90.

The Engineers will return to the pool on Saturday when they travel to New London, Conn. to face Coast Guard at 12:00 p.m.
