Wyatt Ubellacker to Compete in National Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Recent MIT graduate Wyatt Ubellacker (Georgetown, Ky.) will be competing in the USA Swimming Phillips 66 National Championships, that will take place at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUIPUI) from Tuesday, June 25 through Saturday, June 29. Ubellacker will swim three events throughout the week. He is the first MIT swimmer to ever compete in the Championships.

Ubellacker will first swim the 50-meter butterfly on Wednesday morning and the 100-meter butterfly will follow the next morning. Also swimming these events is Olympic Gold medalist Ryan Lochte, who is seeded second in both of them.

Ubellacker's final event, the 50-meter freestyle, will be the last event of the entire Championships, being swam early on Saturday morning. Three-time Olympic Gold medalist Adrian Nathan and six-time Olympic medalist Matt Grevers will be competing in the event.

The preliminary heats will begin every day at 9:00 a.m. and will be completed within two hours, while finals will start at 6:00 p.m. There will be a bonus, consolation and championship final in each individual event, but the bonus final will be limited to the top athletes who are 18 years old and younger who did not qualify for either of the other two heats.

This is Ubellacker's first meet since taking national titles in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly and breaking a 13-year-old national record in the latter at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship in Texas at the end of March.
