Westwood, Mass. (November 13) – Junior Josh Graves (Tustin, Calif.) and the 400 free relay team comprised of Jeremy Bogle (Weston, Mass.), David Morejon (Humble, Texas), Emilio Sison (Annandale, Va.) and Joshua Tomazin (Austin, Texas) have all been named as New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Athletes of the Week for their performances against Division I Cornell University and Brown University over the weekend.
Individually, Graves had himself two strong meets over the weekend. On Friday against Cornell, he won the 1000-free in 9:42.31 and was second in the 500-free in 4:43.62, just 0.06-seconds behind the top finisher. Then on Saturday at Brown, he was the top MIT swimmer in the 1000-free (3rd - 9:43.35) and the 500-free (4th - 4:44.53).
In the final event of the meet against Cornell, the 400 free relay team of Bogle, Morejon, Sison and Tomazin not only won the event, but their time of 3:03.64 was 0.31-seconds behind Emory University's mark which sits atop the nation.
The efforts by the five student-athletes aided MIT in defeating Cornell by one point, 122-121, in the first ever meeting between the two teams.
MIT is back in action this weekend with a dual meet at home against WPI and Bowdoin College. Action is expected to get underway at 12:30 from inside the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool.
