Westwood, Mass. (February 20) –The MIT men's swimming and diving team, ranked No. 5 in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division III national poll, placed a league-high 14 student-athletes on the 2019 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference team this winter.
The NEWMAC saw 40 men's swimming and diving student-athletes from across the league earn Academic All-Conference accolades this season. Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2018 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at his institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
Earning NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honors this year are seniors Luke Eure (Davenport, Iowa), Josh Graves (Tustin, Calif.), Brandon McKenzie (Brigantine, N.J.), Jeremy Sands (Skokie, Ill.) and Emilio Sison (Annandale, Va.) as well as juniors Bouke Edskes (Rockville, Md.),Kevin Fang (Austin, Texas), Tim Kralj (Woodinville, Wash.), Samuel Solomon (Rockville, Md.), Sam Ubellacker (Georgetown, Ky.)and Matt Woicik (Manhattan Beach, Calif.). Additionally, there were three sophomores who made the team this season in Maxwell Halkenhauser (Denville, N.J.), Henry Hu (Southbury, Conn.) and Justin Liu (Linwood, N.J.).
The No. 5 Engineers are gearing up for the upcoming NEWMAC Championship which will take place at WPI from February 21-24, 2019.
