MIT Dominates Batterman Relays

Nov. 1, 2008

NORTON, Mass. – The MIT men’s swimming and diving team wasted no time in asserting its position among the region’s elite, winning all nine events at the annual Charlie Batterman Relays hosted by Wheaton College. No official scores were kept, but the Engineers rocked the waters at Balfour Natatorium against the Lyons and regional power Tufts University in their season debut.

Junior Jeff Zhou and Luke Cummings paced the effort by participating in five of the winning relays. Zhou split a blazing 24.68 on the front end of the 200 medley relay and 23.14 anchoring the 200 fly relay. Cummings earned his victories from all four relay spots including the lead-off leg in the 400 and 500 free.

Senior Lauren Charpentier factored into four wins on the afternoon while rookie Brett Boval enjoyed solid splits in the 200 medley, 200 back and 200 fly in his college debut.
