NORTON, Mass. - The men's swimming and diving team opened its season with a decisive victory in the Batterman Relays, which were hosted by Wheaton College on Saturday. Tech won all 11 events in the competition on its way to a final score of 154. Tufts (84), Wheaton (66) and WPI (60) rounded out the rest of the field.

Leading the way for the Cardinal and Gray were Craig Edwards, Deke Hu, and Luke Cummings, who were each involved in five wins. Ratislav Racz joined them in victory in the 200 yard medley relay, in which the team posted a time of 1:35.98, just .88 seconds off of the NCAA "B" cut.

Meanwhile, David Friend, Kalvin Kao and Peter Wellings joined Cummings in the 500 yard freestyle relay triumph.

Jeff Zhou, Jeremy Chang, Andrew Lee, Udit Garg, Harrison Hall and Brian Kreider were also part of relay victories.

"We performed exceptionally well today," said head coach Dawn Gerken. "We are in the heart of heavy training and the team stepped up and raced aggressively," she added.

The squad now has two weeks off before opening its home slate on Saturday, Nov. 18, when it hosts Babson, Bowdoin, Tufts (divers only) and Connecticut College (divers only). The meet will begin at 1:00 p.m.
