The Engineers, which closed the 2017 season with a record of 18-5 and a national ranking of No. 21 after reaching the NCAA Regional Final, will be under the direction of 13-year head coach Dave Hagymas.
MIT will face-off against six teams ranked inside the top-20 from last year's Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) national poll including No. 3 Middlebury College (Mar. 17), No. 4 Bowdoin College (Mar. 30), No. 8 Amherst College (Apr. 13), No. 17 Tufts University (Mar. 10), No. 19 Bates College (Mar. 22) and No. 20 Brandeis University (Apr. 19). The Engineers will open their home schedule on February 17 against Division I Boston University and will open their NEWMAC slate at Babson College on April 4 in a rematch of last year's conference championship match.
The Engineers return 2017 All-American Tyler Barr (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) as well as NEWMAC All-Conference selections Albert Go (Merritt Island, Fla.), Alex Cauneac (Severna Park, Md.), Sean Ko (Danville, Calif.) and Victor Cheng (Santa Monica, Calif.). MIT also added three freshmen to the squad this season including Pablo Ampudia (San Anotonio, Texas), Charles Deng (Temple City, Calif.) and Michael Zhao (Princeton Junction, N.J.). Deng and Zhao have already made an impact on this year's team as they posted records of 3-1 and 2-2, respectively, during the fall.
