Engineers Finish Second at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – Sophomore Tyler Singer-Clark (Falmouth, Mass.) led the way with four first-place finishes as MIT placed second out of four teams in a meet hosted by Colby College on Saturday afternoon. Singer-Clark's dominating performance accounted for 22.5 of Tech's 183 team points, good for second behind Bates College, which finished with 254. Host Colby was third and the University of Southern Maine finished fourth.

Singer-Clark picked up individual wins in the 200 and 400 meters, as the Cardinal and Gray dominated those two events. Singer-Clark was buoyed by teammate Nick Diamantoni (Belle Mead, N.J.) and Daniel Ronde (East Northport, N.Y.), both of who joined Singer-Clark in the top five of the 200/400 double. Diamantoni was the runner-up in both events while Ronde took third in the 400m and fifth in the 200m.

Singer-Clark, Diamantoni and Ronde were joined by freshman Sheldon Trotman (Gaithersburg, Md.) to win the 4x100 relay with a time of 43.57 seconds. Singer-Clark earned his fourth win of the day in the 4x400 relay, which posted a time of 3:24.77.

One of the other 4x400 legs, freshman Sam Parker (Menlo Park, Calif.) earned a second-place showing in the 800, with his time of 1:55.91. Parker was followed by sophomore Justin Bullock (Detroit, Mich.) in third place.

Senior Daniel Harper (Naperville, Ill.) was a winner in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:19.12. Sophomore teammate Roy Wedge (Lawrence, Kan.) came through right behind Harper, in second place with a time of 15:21.72.

Other event winners for Tech were freshman John Thomas (Somerville, Mass.) in the high jump and freshman Cameron Wagar (West Richland, Wash.) in the javelin.

Senior Chinedum Umachi (Detroit, Mich.) had a solid afternoon in the throws, securing second place in the discus (151-04 feet) and hammer throw (176-10 feet) and a fifth-place standing in the shot put (39-9.25 feet).

Next weekend, MIT will send a handful of athletes to Princeton University for the Larry Ellis Invitational while also hosting its annual Spring Invite on Saturday afternoon.
