Men's Volleyball Defeats Lasell & Alvernia on Opening Night of JWU Tournament

- The Lead: The MIT men's volleyball team improved to 3-0 tonight as the Engineers swept Lasell College by set scores of 25-13, 25-15, 25-16 and defeated Alvernia University 25-23, 23-25, 25-15, 25-16 on the first day of the 2019 JWU Tip-off Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. Lasell:

- The Engineers were dominant in all three sets against the Lasers. First-year Tommy Ogeka (Manorville, N.Y.) led the way for MIT with ten kills in the opening match.

- The final point of the opening set came on a kill by senior Skyler Kaufman (Needham, Mass.), while two consecutive errors handed MIT the second set. MIT closed the third set and the match on a blocking error an attacking error by Lasell to win by set scores of 25-13, 25-15, 25-16.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. Alvernia:

- The team squads traded the first two sets of the match by 25-23 scores. From that point on, MIT's offensive attack was dominant posting 26 kills on 44 swings and committed just seven total errors. 

- Senior Steven Timberman (Merrick, N.Y.) led the way for MIT with 12 kills, while Ogeka added nine to his ten from the first match against Lasell.
