Rochester, N.Y. (January 29) – MIT men's volleyball first-year Tommy Ogeka (Manorville, N.Y.) has been named as the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Rookie of the Week after leading the Engineers to a 4-0 start to the 2019 campaign. In addition, senior Skyler Kaufman (Needham, Mass.) was one of six student-athletes on the UVC Honor Roll list this week.
Ogeka registered a team-high 38 kills, hit .325 (38K-13E-77A) and posted a pair of service aces. Ogeka's best match of the week came against Baruch on the final day of the JWU Tip-off tournament where he hit .433 with a career-high 17 kills. On the defensive side of the ball, Ogeka notched ten total blocks (four solo, six block assists) and posted 19 digs over 12 sets this week.
Kaufman registered 30 kills and notched a hitting percentage of .643 (30K-3E-42A), which currently ranks second in the UVC. Defensively, Kaufman posted nine total blocks (four solo blocks & five block assists) as well as seven digs. Kaufman's best match of the week came against Baruch on the final day of the JWU Tip-off tournament as he notched 13 of his 30 kills and five of his nine blocks.
MIT (4-0) heads to Rivier University for a non-conference match tomorrow night at 7:00 pm.
