CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 6 Vassar College defeated host and No. 11 seed MIT, 31-29, 30-26, 30-24, in the first round of the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Championship Tournament on Friday. With the win, the nationally-ranked No. 10 Brewers improved to 18-7 on the year and will take on No. 3 Ramapo College in quarterfinal action on Saturday. The Engineers closed their season with a ledger of 25-12.
Phil Tully compiled 22 kills and a .391 hitting percentage as Steve Micucci posted 10 kills and a .769 hitting performance. Brian Bacchi added 10 kills and three blocks while Evan Fredericksen tallied 13 kills, 12 digs, and two blocks. Scott Leserman collected 18 digs as John Kessenich notched 53 assists and three blocks.
Scott Pollom led MIT with 12 kills and a .476 hitting percentage as Michael Demyttenaere totaled nine kills and two blocks. Malcolm Bean recorded nine kills and three blocks while Garrett Winther posted seven kills and two aces. Eric Reuland notched a team-high 11 digs as Eugene Jang contributed nine of his own. Tim Lee dished out 33 assists for the Engineers.
