PROVIDENCE, R.I. - MIT water polo was defeated by No. 12 Brown, 12-9, on the road on Friday night after a very close game. Junior Craig Cheney (Sherwood, Ore.) scored the first goal of the game just 30 seconds into the first period, giving the Engineers a quick lead over the Bears. By the end of the first eight minutes, however, Brown had turned the game around, giving it a 3-1 advantage going into the second period.

Brown's Henry Fox scored the lone goal of the second period, extending the Bears' lead to 4-1. Control of the game shifted, though, when freshmen Kale Rogers (Newberg, Ore.) and Ory Tasman (Orlando, Fla.) scored two goals apiece within the first four minutes of the start of the third period. With 32 seconds left on the clock, sophomore Dylan Hallman (La Jolla, Calif.) scored one last goal, tying the game at 6-6 heading into the final period.

The Bears played aggressively in the remaining eight minutes, netting six goals compared to MIT's three, which were scored by Cheney, Rogers and junior Scott Stephens (Los Altos, Calif.). The game ended with the Bears being victorious, 12-9.

MIT returns to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 5:00 p.m. when it faces Connecticut College for the third time in the past three weeks.
