MIT Water Polo Drops First Game of Season to UC Irvine

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Opening the 2013 season at the Bruno Fall Classic at Brown University on Saturday morning, the MIT men's water polo team fell in its first game of the day to the University of California Irvine with a score of 19-2. The Engineers are now 0-1 for their season but will play another game against Washington & Jefferson College later on in the day.

The lone goal-scorers for MIT were junior Dylan Hallman (La Jolla, Calif.) and sophomore Kale Rogers (Newberg, Ore.), with one goal being scored in the first quarter and one in the third.

Junior Spencer Boone (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) spent the most time in the goal, allowing 11 goals and blocking two shots. During his first appearance in net for the Engineers, freshman Nolan Kruse (Orcutt, Calif.) blocked five shots and allowed seven goals. Also tending the goal for the first time, fellow freshman  Ian Zaun (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) blocked two shots and only allowed one goal.

Tech will return to the pool this afternoon to face fellow Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) rival Washington & Jefferson.
