MIT Water Polo Ends Bruno Fall Classic With a Loss to Stanford

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - On the second and final day of the Bruno Fall Classic on Sunday afternoon, hosted by Brown University, the MIT water polo team fell to Stanford University with a score of 23-5. After having lost to UC Irvine with a score of 19-2 and winning against Washington & Jefferson with a score of 19-8, the Engineers wrapped up the weekend with a record of 1-2.

Senior Craig Cheney (Sherwood, Ore.) scored MIT's first goal, getting Tech on the scoreboard early in the first quarter. After being held to zero goals during the next period, two Engineers were able to sneak the ball past the goalkeeper in the third quarter. Sophomore Ory Tasman (Orlando, Fla.), who ended his first collegiate season last year in second place on the team for goals scored with 64, tallied a goal and was soon followed by classmate Matthew Orton (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) scoring his first goal of the season.

In the fourth period, freshman Zach Churukian (Menlo Park, Calif.) and sophomore Sam Edson (Seal Beach, Calif.) added two more goals to MIT's final score. The game ended with a Stanford win of 23-5.

MIT will return to Brown University next weekend, this time for the Bruno Fall Invitational that will take place from Saturday through Sunday, Sept. 14-15. The Engineers will first face the University of the Pacific at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday.
