  • MIT Student-Athletes Apply Lessons From Sport To Create Robotic Kitchen

    The four engineers behind Spyce, known as the “Spyce Boys,” were all varsity athletes during their time at MIT: Kale Rogers, Brady Knight, and Michael Farid were on the water polo team, and Luke Schlueter was on the swimming and diving team. Schlueter, Rogers, and Knight graduated in 2016 as Course 2 (Mechanical Engineering) majors, while Farid finished his undergraduate degree in 2014 and earned his master’s in Mechanical Engineering from MIT in 2016.

  • MIT Water Polo Places 12 Student-Athletes on ACWPC All-Academic Team

    Bridgeport, Pa. (February 7) – Twelve student-athletes from the MIT water polo team have been honored by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) for their academic excellence this year as all of them earned a spot on the 2017 ACWPC All-Academic Team when the association announced its selections this week.
  • Water Polo Sees Three Named All-Americans In 2017

(December 13) – For the second consecutive year, three members of the MIT water polo team have been named All-Americans by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). Sophomore Clyde Huibregtse (New York, N.Y.) was named to the Second Team, while the freshman duo of Christian Schillinger (Orinda, Calif.) and Evan Kim (Irvine, Calif.) were named Honorable Mention All-Americans.

    Cambridge, Mass. (November 17) - In the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Tournament opener for both teams, the fifth-seeded MIT Engineers fell to the fourth-seeded Brown University Bears, 9-4, on Friday evening in Cambridge. 
  • Water Polo Closes Regular Season With Losses To No. 13 Harvard and No. 16 Brown

    Cambridge, Mass. (November 4) - In its final regular season games of 2017, the MIT water polo team was edged by No. 13 Harvard University, 11-7, and No. 16 Brown University, 13-10. Both games were Northeast Water Polo Conference matches and had implications on the seedings for the upcoming postseason tournament. MIT (2-8 NWPC) earned the fifth-seed, Harvard (8-3 NWPC) took the third seed and Brown (5-5 NWPC) took the fourth-seed in the double-elimination tournament slated to start in two weeks.

    Cambridge, Mass. (October 29) - In its final home game of 2017, the MIT water polo team dropped a 14-6 decision to the visiting No. 19 Terriers of St. Francis College in a Northeast Water Polo Conference match.
  • Water Polo Splits With No. 12 Princeton and Iona on Senior Day

    Cambridge, Mass. (October 28) - The MIT water polo team, ranked No. 3 in the latest CWPA Division III Poll, split a pair of Northeast Water Polo matches as the Engineers fell to No. 12 nationally-ranked Princeton University, 14-8, before coming back in the nightcap with an 8-5 win over Iona. Prior to the game against Iona, MIT honored its two seniors Daniel Yahalomi (New York, N.Y.) and Kyle Archer (Clovis, Calif.) for their hard work and dedication to the MIT water polo program.
  • MIT Falls To Johns Hopkins, 11-10, In CWPA Division III Championship Title Game

(October 15) - With the score even at 10-10 with 1:13 to play, Johns Hopkins got the go ahead and what proved to be the game winning goal by Ryan Masi as the second-seeded Blue Jays claimed the CWPA Division III Championship on Sunday afternoon in Cambridge over first-seeded MIT, 11-10.

    Cambridge, Mass. (October 15) - In a battle of the two best teams in Division III water polo, No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer came away with an 8-7 win over No. 2 MIT on Sunday evening in Cambridge.
  • Water Polo Advances To CWPA D3 Championship Title Game With Wins Over Monmouth & Penn State Behrend

(October 14) - The MIT water polo team, ranked No. 2 in the CWPA Division III national rankings and the top-seed in the CWPA Division III Tournament, registered wins over Monmouth College, 20-1, and Penn State Behrend, 12-3, to advance to tomorrow’s Championship Game against second-seeded Johns Hopkins University at 12:15 p.m.

(October 1) - In a back-and-forth battle between Division III No. 1 MIT and No. 11 nationally-ranked Princeton University, the Engineers came up just short as the Tigers put together a 4-0 run in the third stanza to claim the Northeast Water Polo Conference game by a 13-11 score. 
  • Water Polo Bests Iona In Sudden Death OT; Falls To St. Francis To Open League Play

    Brooklyn, N.Y. (September 30) - MIT senior Kyle Archer (Clovis, Calif.) scored the game winning goal to give MIT a 14-13 sudden death overtime win against Iona College this morning and in the nightcap, St. Francis edged MIT, 10-5, as the Engineers earned a split on their first day in conference play. 
  • Water Polo Takes Down Division III No. 2 Whittier, Division III No. 5 Redlands To Close Run at UC Davis Invite

    Davis, Calif. (September 17) - MIT, ranked No. 9 in the latest Collegiate Water Polo Association's (CWPA) Division III Top-10, registered two huge wins against Division III No. 2 Whittier, 10-9, in sudden death overtime and Division III No. 5 Redlands, 8-6, to close action at the UC Davis Invitational this weekend. The Engineers also faced off with No. 2 nationally-ranked Southern California and No. 5 nationally-ranked University of the Pacific, but MIT fell by scored of 25-5 and 22-5, respectively.

    Davis, Calif. (September 15) - In the MIT's first game at the UC Davis Invitational, the Engineers were clipped by the No. 15 nationally-ranked Cal Baptist Lancers, 15-9, on Friday evening in California. Coming into today's game MIT was ranked No. 9 in the latest Division III CWPA poll.

    Cambridge, Mass. (September 3) - The MIT water polo team earned its first win of the 2017 campaign this afternoon as the Engineers defeated McKendree University in the second of two games played today at the Bruno Classic. In this morning’s contest, MIT fell to Wagner College by a 15-10 final score.

    Cambridge, Mass. (September 2) - The MIT water polo team opened its 2017 at the Bruno Classic where the Engineers faced off with two of the top teams in the country. In game one, No. 7 Pepperdine University defeated MIT, 15-5, and in the night cap No. 3 Stanford University bested MIT, 24-1.
  • Water Polo Releases 2017 Schedule; MIT To Take On 11 Nationally-Ranked Teams

(July 10) – The MIT water polo team has announced its slate of games for the 2017 season, which will feature 23 regular season games that includes ten Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) contests and nine home matches. The Engineers will be under the direction of fourth-year head coach Dave Andriole.
  • Ory Tasman ’16 Set To Compete For USA Water Polo Team at 2017 Maccabiah Games

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (July 3) – Former MIT water polo standout student-athlete Ory Tasman ’16 (Orlando, Fla.) has been chosen to compete for Team USA at the 20th World Maccabi Games, which will take place from July 4 – July 18, 2017 in Israel. Tasman, who is currently the women’s collegiate club water polo coach at the University of Central Florida, will join the USA Water Polo team in his first-ever Maccabiah Games this summer.
