WELLESLEY, Mass. - MIT fell to NEWMAC foe Wellesley College, 61-36, on Wednesday night. The loss lowered the Engineers' record to 3-13 on the year and 0-6 in conference play while the Blue improved to 4-12 and 1-6.

Wellesley opened the game with five unanswered points before MIT responded with five of its own. The teams traded baskets until the 14:43 mark, when the Engineers went on an 8-2 run which resulted in a 17-12 lead. Three-pointers from Michal Ruchelsman and Kimberly Soo Hoo helped Tech establish its largest advantage of the game. Wellesley battled back to even the contest at 17 on a lay-up from Courtney Richter with 7:18 remaining. The Blue closed out the first half with a 13-6 run behind solid shooting from Courtney Pelley, who shot 5-of-9 in the frame and connected on all three of her attempts from behind the arc. Wellesley entered the intermission with a 30-23 advantage, its largest margin of the night.

The Blue's defense held its ground in the second stanza as it kept MIT scoreless for over eight minutes while going on a 14-0 run. Jessica Duff tallied six points for Wellesley during the pivotal stretch. The Engineers ended the scoring drought on a free throw by Sharon Prange at 11:34. Both squads traded baskets as the Blue cruised to the win.

MIT was led by Kimberly Soo Hoo with 10 points while Ruchelsman added seven points. Prange pulled down seven rebounds as Amy Marshall grabbed a game-high six steals.

Duff led Wellesley with 15 points and 15 rebounds while Pelley led all scorers with 16 points. Richter added 10 points and seven boards as Julia Thomas snagged 11 caroms and chipped in seven points.
