CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT women's basketball team fell to 3-18 on the year and 0-10 in the NEWMAC following a 57-41 loss to WPI on Wednesday. Michal Ruchelsman paced the Engineers with 10 points, equaling her season-high mark set earlier this season at Emmanuel College.
The majority of the first half was closely played as WPI held a 17-11 advantage with 8:46 remaining. After four minutes of scoreless play, a lay-up by Ruchelsman narrowed MIT's deficit to four. WPI responded with a 9-4 spurt to close the frame and enter the intermission with a 26-17 lead.
WPI carried the momentum into the second stanza with its margin remaining in double-figures throughout the half. The hosts extended their lead to 19 on two occasions, the last time occurring with 2:33 left to play.
Clara Yuan bolstered MIT's offense with seven points while Sharon Prange and Christa Margossian both posted six points. Prange collected seven rebounds and two blocks as Margossian grabbed six caroms.
