CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - With a 75-40 victory over Newbury College on Monday night, the MIT women's basketball team reached the 10-win mark for the first time since 2002-03. The Engineers (10-11) saw five players rack up double-figures in scoring while two achieved the same feat in rebounding.

MIT tallied 12 unanswered points before a lay-up by Katelyn Mark put the Nighthawks (2-19) on the board at 13:37. The Engineers went on to outscore Newbury, 27-6, during the next 10 minutes to establish their largest margin of the frame (39-8). Back-to-back three-pointers from Jessica Lightfoot and Mark sparked a 10-0 spurt for the Nighthawks that resulted in a 39-18 halftime score.

The Cardinal and Gray extended its advantage in the second stanza despite four consecutive three-pointers from Newbury's Ashley Monteiro. The Nighthawks recorded only three additional field goals in the half as their second-chance scoring opportunities were limited due to strong rebounding by MIT. The Engineers ended the game with advantages in points in the paint (38-10), points off turnovers (23-14), second-chance points (32-6), and bench scoring (14-2).

Cheryl Kwinn dominated the boards as she grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds to go along with 12 points and five assists for MIT. Samia Mahjub notched 16 points and 13 caroms while Clara Yuan tallied 16 points, six assists, and two steals. Kimberly Soo Hoo posted 13 points and six assists as Alice Yeh registered 12 points coming off the bench.

Monteiro paced the Nighthawks with 12 points, all coming from three-point range, while Catherine Cullen contributed eight points. Rashawna Wynn grabbed a game-high five steals as Lightfoot collected a team-high five rebounds.

Next up for MIT will be its final home game of the season on Wednesday, Feb. 13 when it takes on NEWMAC foe Babson College. Newbury will begin a four-game home-stand on Tuesday, Feb. 12 when it hosts Wheelock College.
