Engineers Fall to Emerson, 59-42

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Emerson College outscored MIT, 18-4, during the last four minutes en route to a 59-42 win in a non-conference women's basketball game on Thursday night. The Lions evened their record at 2-2 while the Engineers' ledger fell to 2-3.

The early stages of the game were closely played as it featured four ties, the last one occurring at the 9:22 mark. A three-point play by Tech's Sharon Prange evened the contest at 16. A pair of free throws by Lauren Vassallo ended a three-minute scoring drought and sparked a 10-0 run for Emerson. MIT entered the intermission trailing, 26-21, as it cut its deficit in half on a lay-up by Amy Marshall and free throws from Christa Margossian and Kimberly Soo Hoo.

The Engineers stayed within striking distance during the majority of the second stanza, coming within three (41-38) on Clara Yuan's trey with 6:37 remaining. After a 2:30 scoring drought, the Lions posted five consecutive points which was followed by a jumper from Yuan at 1:35. Emerson recorded its last field goal of the night on Ellie Feitlinger's lay-up as it tallied its final points from the charity stripe.

Yuan finished with 10 points, four rebounds, two blocks, and two steals while Amy Marshall notched eight points coming off the bench. Prange and Soo Hoo both recorded seven points while Prange grabbed a team-high three steals. Margossian paced the Engineers with five rebounds and three assists.
