Women’s Openweight Crew Earns Mixed Results at Princeton

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - For its second regatta of the year the women's openweight crew traveled to the Princeton Chase this past weekend. The varsity eight placed 25th of 55 entries despite an equipment malfunction, and the novice eight finished 10th of 16.

Coming off of its successful outing in the Head of the Charles, the varsity eight crew was on pace for a very competitive time when the footstretchers in four seat broke about a mile into the race. Unable to fix it, the crew continued to row hard despite the disruption in boat rhythm, and earned a time of 16:29.5. While frustrated at not being able to race to their full ability, the Engineers were pleased to place ahead of the top entries from Rutgers, Georgetown, Holy Cross, George Washington, and Villanova.

The novice eight was composed of eight recruited freshman rowers, and started at the back of the pack. Passing three other boats before finishing, the boat was clocked at 17:42.5.
