Center Valley, Pa. (May 18) -- MIT women's openweight rowers Abbey Diener (Draper, Utah) and Caitlin McCandler (St. Louis Park, Minn.) were among 11 student-athletes named to the women's rowing Academic All-Patriot League team, as announced by the league office. This is the first time that they have been recognized on the All-Academic Team and MIT is one of just three teams to have multiple honorees.
Diener, a team captain, boasts a 4.7 GPA on MIT's 5.0 scale and is a chemical biological engineering major. A Patriot League First All-Conference performer, she was in the No. 8 seat of the Varsity 8 that placed fifth in the Grand Final at the Patriot League Championship.
McCandler, a junior who has a perfect 5.0 GPA as a materials science and engineering major, was in the No. 4 seat of the V8 at the Patriot League Championship. The Engineers finished six seconds out of third and just over three seconds in front of Lehigh. MIT finished in sixth place overall with 28 points.
