McCandler, Gilad Earn Patriot League Postseason Rowing Accolades

Center Valley, Pa. (May 23) -- MIT openweight crew seniors Caitlin McCandler (St. Louis Park, Minn.) and Tal Gilad (Horsham, Pa.) have both been recognized by the Patriot League in their postseason awards announcements. McCandler earned a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League Team, while Gilad was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team for her performance at the league championship.

Earning Academic All-Conference accolades for the second straight season, McCandler has an overall cumulative GPA of 5.0 (on MIT's 5.0 scale) and is a double major in materials science and engineering. At the Patriot League Championship, McCandler was in the No. 3 seat of Varsity 8 boat that finished sixth in the Grand Final after improving by over nine seconds from the earlier heat.

Gilad was in the No. 6 seat in the Varsity 8 at the Patriot League Championship and is earning All-Conference honors for the first time in her career. After opening the season in the No. 3 seat at the Head of the Fish and the Head of the Charles, Gilad permanently moved to the No. 6 seat for the spring season.

As a team, MIT finished sixth at the Patriot League Championship with a total of 22 points as the V8 and 2V8 advanced to the Grand Finals and the V4 was second in the Petite Final on Lake Quinsigamond.
