Three Top 10 Finishes Highlight Women's Fencing Outing

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The MIT women's fencing team recorded a trio of top-10 finishes in its 2011-12 debut at The Big One hosted by Smith College on Saturday. Junior Robin Shin (Brookline, Mass.) won the sabre division for the second year in a row while both freshman Sarah Alkilany (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and senior Breanna Peterman (Selden, N.Y.) finished second and ninth, respectively, in the epee competition.

Seniors Kirsten Hessler (Roswell, Ga.) and Rachel Williams (Merritt Island, Fla.) completed the epee squad with rankings of 17th and 30th.

In sabre action, senior Molly Kozminsky (Port Matilda, Pa.) was 14th, followed by junior Elisabeth Morant (Chicago, Ill.) at 35th, freshman Rui Wang (Lexington, Mass.) at 40th, junior Sally Wolfe (Madison, Wis.) at 50th, and freshman Jennifer Thornton (Medfield, Mass.) at 52nd place.

Senior Ana Escalante (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the foil team by ranking 16th while classmate Julia Hopkins (New York, N.Y.) placed three spots behind her. Seniors Elizabeth Min (Little Neck, N.Y.) ranked 45th as junior Julia Kimmerly (Middlesex, Vt.) finished in 50th place. Freshmen Rebecca Shi (Plainsboro, N.J.) and Jane Cotler (Brooklyn, N.Y.) wrapped up the day in 62nd and 81st place.
