Women's Fencing Captures 18th New England Championship, Sakharova Earns Third Epee Title

- The Lead: For the 18th time in program history and first since 2015, the MIT women's fencing team captured the New England Intercollegiate Fencing Championship on Saturday. Junior Helen Sakharova (Ridgewood, N.J.) won her third epee individual title, becoming the first fencer in program history to accomplish this feat. The epee unit finished first out of 14 teams and was awarded the Silvio Vitale Cup, which goes to the top squad in the women's field, as the Engineers won 95 percent of their bouts. The foil team also finished atop the standings and was powered by sophomore Stephanie Li's (Greenwood Villlage, Colo.) seventh-place finish. Junior Jasmine McGhee (Chandler, Ariz.) led the way for the sabre squad as her career-best eighth-place finish helped MIT rank fifth overall.
