CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT women's fencing team captured its second consecutive New England Championship and 15th overall last weekend at Mount Holyoke College. The sabre squad, comprised of rookies Robin Shin, Molly Kozminsky, and Lauren Chilton, secured first place and recorded the best outing for the Engineers since 2001-02.

Shin and Kozminsky posted flawless 14-0 performances during the qualifying rounds en route to Gold and Bronze medals. Chilton completed the contingent with a total of 10-1, resulting in a seventh-place finish. The trio of Jennifer McKeehan, Priscilla del Castillo, and Caroline Purcell set the standard for the Cardinal and Gray in 2002, placing first, third, and fourth, respectively.

Powered by Cordelia Link's total of 11-3, the foil team claimed third place. Link ranked fourth overall as Jenna Caldwell (12-2) finished ninth. Lindley Graham rounded out the squad with a 9-3 ledger, good for fourth place in the "C" pool.

Stephanie Shin led the way for the epee team, notching a mark of 11-3 en route to a fifth-place individual finish. Kirsten Hessler (8-6) and Sophie Monahan (7-4) both ranked sixth in their respective qualifying pools and helped propel the Engineers to a sixth-place team ranking.
