Engineers Compete at IFA Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - This past weekend, the MIT women's fencing team competed in the IFA Championship, the oldest collegiate championship in the country. The Engineers finished 10th out of 12 teams, which included Boston College, Brandeis University, Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Harvard University, New York University, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University, Vassar College and Yale University.

The foil team posted the highest ranking for Tech as it took sixth place, equaling the program's best finish which occurred in 2003-04. Cordelia Link led the way by tallying seven victories for a fifth-place finish while Nancy Hua's six victories earned her sixth place in the "B" pool. Chun Li and Lindley Graham represented MIT in the "C" pool, placing seventh and 13th, respectively.

Yushin Chen captured ninth place in the top sabre pool while the squad recorded a 10th-place finish. Hareem Ahmad (11th place) and Heather Pressler (12th place) each picked up a win as Laura Evans captured eighth in the "C" pool with four victories.

Joanna Tong recorded the best performance for MIT in epee as she totaled five wins en route to a seventh-place finish in the "B" pool. Stephanie Shin took 12th place in the "A" pool while Zhenya Gu finished 14th in the "C" pool. As a team, the Engineers registered a ranking of 12th place.
