Women's Fencing Competes at The Big One

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT women's fencing team kicked off its 2006-07 campaign this past weekend by competing in The Big One hosted by Smith College. In the first intercollegiate competition of their careers, Cordelia Link finished first in foil while Stephanie Shin posted a second-place finish in epee.

Nancy Hua bolstered the Engineers' foil team with a third-place finish. Xiyue Gao captured 20th as Chun Li and Amirah Khan placed 30th and 36th, respectively.

In epee action, Joanna Tong posted a ranking of 13th while Erin Caulfield finished in 24th place. Zhenya Gu (40th) and Stephanie Couch (52nd) rounded out Tech's epee performances.

The members of the sabre squad placed closely together with Yushin Chen leading the way at 28th. Laura Evans finished right behind her, followed by Heather Pressler (31st) and Hareem Ahmad (37th).
