MIT Goes 6-0 at NFC Competition

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In its first Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) competition of the season, the MIT women's fencing team defeated Boston University (20-7), Tufts University (16-11), Wellesley College (18-9), UMass-Amherst (20-7), Smith College (21-6), and University of New Hampshire (21-6). Cordelia Link recorded the best individual effort for the Engineers as she won all 14 of her foil bouts.

The foil team notched the best ledger of the day, sweeping BU and UMass en route to a 47-7 finish. Nancy Hua followed Link's outstanding showing with a 14-3 mark while Lindley Graham amassed a 12-4 record. Xiyue Gao posted the team's second undefeated performance with a 7-0 total.

Stephanie Shin's 14-4 mark helped lead the epee team to a 35-19 overall ledger. Joanna Tong went 11-5 on the day while Zhenya Gu finished at 6-6. Stephanie Couch won four bouts, including the decisive match-up in MIT's 5-4 win over BU, while Erin Caulfield fell in her four pairings.

Yushin Chen and Heather Pressler had the best performances for the sabre squad. Chen totaled a 13-5 record while Pressler posted a 10-2 mark. Laura Evans (7-9) and Hareem Ahmad (4-4) rounded out the quartet's 34-20 ledger.
