Top-Ranked MIT Downs University of New England, 6-2

BIDDEFORD, Maine.- In a matchup of the two top ranked teams in the NCAA New England East regional rankings, top ranked MIT jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, en route to an impressive 6-2 win over the University of New England, in non-conference field hockey action Wednesday night. During the game, Kameron Klauber (Carlsbad, Calif.) became Tech's all-time leading scorer, moving past Jessica Oleinik with a four-goal outburst, giving the senior 17 tallies on the year and 47 for her career.

Klauber opened her assault on the goal early on, scoring three times in the game's first 14 minutes to complete the natural hat trick and stake the Engineers to an early 3-0 lead. Her first two markers were unassisted while the third came with help from Molly Duffy (New Providence, N.J).

The host Nor'easters would cut into the deficit midway through the half, as Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) put UNE on the board in the 22nd minute.

Klauber would pick up her first assist of the night, and team leading 17th of the year, on a pass that Kimberly Barker (Camden, N.Y.) converted just before the intermission.

UNE received a penalty corner goal from Laura Egounis (Boscawen, N.H.) early on the second, to cut Tech's lead to two, at 4-2. Anna Teruya (Hockessin, Del.) and Klauber added a pair of insurance markers to help preserve the win in MIT's final non-conference test of the season.

Casey Landry (Peabody, Mass.) worked the first half, making a pair of saves while allowing just one goal, to pick up her 12th win of the season in net for the Cardinald and Gray. Jenna Klein (Parma, Ohio) played the second half and stopped six shots by the Nor'easters.

The Engineers will conclude their regular season with a key New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game at Babson College on Saturday, October 29 at 12:30 p.m. With a win, MIT can clinch the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament, which begins next week.
