CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT field hockey team inched up to 19th on the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFCHA) Division III Preseason Poll that was released today. The lone representative from the NEWMAC and one of six teams from New England, the Engineers were previously ranked 20th in the preseason standings.
Holding a 3-0 ledger heading into Tuesday night's game against Gordon College, MIT is third in the country in assists per game (4.33), sixth in save percentage (0.947), ninth in goals against average (0.31) and shutouts per game (0.67), and 10th in scoring margin (4.3). Individually, sophomore Evie Kyritsis (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) ranks seventh in save percentage (0.947) while senior Maddy Wharton (Swartmore, Pa.) stands eighth in assists per game (1.33).
