    A pair of goals by sophomore Amanda Garofalo (Fairfield, N.J.) helped the No. 5 seeded MIT field hockey team defeat No. 4 WPI in the quarterfinals of the NEWMAC Championship Tournament on Tuesday night. With the win, MIT will be making its third straight semifinal appearance and ninth in 10 years.
  • Field Hockey Drops 3-2 Senior Day Final to Springfield

    In the regular-season finale and Senior Day, the MIT field hockey team dropped a back-and-forth 3-2 final to visiting Springfield College on Sunday afternoon. Prior to the start of the game, MIT honored seniors Allie Shepard (Wexford, Pa.), Bailey Tregoning (Frederick, Md.) and Katherine Stoll (Avon, Conn.) for their contributions to the program during their MIT careers.

    Beth Krikorian netted the lone goal of the game in the 48th minute, helping nationally-ranked No. 3 Tufts University defeat No. 17 MIT, 1-0, in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday night. Sophomore goalie Grace Moore (Boston, Mass.) amassed 21 saves for the Engineers, finishing just one shy of tying the Institute record that was set by Kathleen Rubritz ’03 in 2002 against Mount Holyoke College.

    A hat trick by junior Devon Goetz (Rockville, Md.) along with multiple-point performances by senior Bailey Tregoning (Frederick, Md.) and sophomore Amanda Garofalo (Fairfield, N.J.) powered the nationally-ranked No. 11 MIT field hockey team to a 9-1 victory over UMass Dartmouth in the season-opener for both squads on Friday night. The win marked the 10th consecutive season-opening and home-opening victory for the Engineers.
