CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - New England College's Amanda Lester tallied three goals, including a penalty stroke, and two assists in a 5-1 win over MIT in non-conference field hockey action on Saturday. Playing their second game in as many days, the Pilgrims improved to 2-0 on the year while the Engineers dropped to 0-1.

Lester recorded her first point of the game by setting up Jodie Dresser for the opening goal after 1:10 had elapsed. Tech posted the equalizer over 10 minutes later when Anna Ayuso connected on a feed from Ashley Thomas during a scramble in front of the cage. Lester gave NEC the lead for good on an unassisted tally with 1:44 remaining in the first half.

The Pilgrims continued to attack in the second stanza, as they out-shot MIT, 10-2. NEC extended its advantage to 3-1 in the 43rd minute after Brittany Vogrin converted a feed from Lester. Lori Zaniboni found Lester for her second goal of the game 15 minutes later. Lester sealed the win by placing a penalty stroke into the top left side of the cage with less than three minutes to play.

In net, Alexa Herman collected seven saves for the Engineers while Jacqui Parker made two stops for the Pilgrims. MIT's Sharon Prange and NEC's Holly Soule each notched a defensive save.

MIT returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 9 when it faces host Vassar College at the Betty Richey Field Hockey Tournament. NEC will host Manhattanville College in its home-opener on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 4:00 p.m.
