REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands generated nine straight goals that spanned both halves en route to a 13-3 win over the MIT women's lacrosse team on Tuesday night. Junior Molly McShane (Lake Bluff, Ill.) totaled one goal, two groundballs, and two draw controls for the Engineers.
The Cardinal and Gray got on the scoreboard when McShane redirected a feed from junior Laura Wacker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) after two minutes expired. The Bulldogs followed with six unanswered goals that resulted in a 6-1 lead at halftime.
Redlands registered three goals in the first 2:29 of the second stanza while sophomore Erica Du (Excelsior, Minn.) ended MIT's scoring drought at the 16:20 mark, making the score 9-2. The Bulldogs replied with another three-goal spurt as Wacker buried a free-position shot with 4:01 left to play. Two minutes later Redlands notched the final marker of the game.
Junior Meghan Wright (Devon, Pa.) posted three groundballs and one caused turnover while senior Katie Kauffman (Olney, Md.) registered two groundballs and two draw controls. Sophomore Erin Kenney (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and freshman Lyndsy Muri (Ashland, Mass.) both chipped in two groundballs as sophomore Sarah Ritter (The Woodlands, Texas) amassed 17 saves.
MIT (1-7) concludes its spring training trip at Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday, March 28.
