Boston, Mass. (March 27) – MIT juniors Emily Young (La Jolla, Calif.) and Eva Boal (Princeton Junction, N.J.) were named the NEWMAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league on Monday. The awards are the first for both players this season and come after the Engineers went 2-1 during the past week of action.
In three games, Young totaled 14 goals, five assists, 19 points, 11 draw controls, and six groundballs. She began things last Monday with two goals, two assists, and five draw controls in a 16-13 win over Bridgewater State University. Young then amassed a game-high seven goals to go along with one assist, four groundballs, and two draw controls in a 15-4 victory over NEWMAC foe U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Thursday. She wrapped up the week with five goals, two assists, four draw controls, and two groundballs in Sunday's 22-13 loss at Colorado College.
In her three appearances in net, Boal totaled 35 saves, 13 groundballs, and five caused turnovers. She started the week with seven saves, five groundballs, and a caused turnover against Bridgewater State. Boal then posted eight saves, two groundballs, and a caused turnover versus Coast Guard. She capped off the week with a career-high 20 saves to go along with six groundballs and three caused turnovers at Colorado College.
MIT returns to action on Tuesday, March 28 when it plays Williams College at Colorado College.
